The menuetto was organized around its big orchestral unison motif, which set off more fast and delicate music, the trio a little slower and warmer in tone. 331) followed, the variations on its gentle lullaby theme given accented wrong-note grace notes and expertly voiced hand crossings. After the clanging, sonorous bells of Le Carillon de Cythère (an effect easier to produce on the modern piano than on the harpsichord), the rhythmic infusion of Le tic-toc-choc, now synonymous with Tharaud, was played with more force than in his recording (or his 2008 recital at the French Embassy). The pairing of Les ombres errantes and La triomphante was played for maximal contrast, delicate and ultra-slow for the former, trumpeted motifs bustling with agitation for the latter. His Les calotines clicked and clacked, as if with mechanical sounds, and he stretched Les rozeaux and the gorgeous Les barricades mistérieuses with taffy-like rubato. The bulk of the program, though, showed the French pianist going in new directions, with composers not previously associated with him, at least by these ears.Įven in the set of eight Couperin pieces, drawn from all over the place, Tharaud seemed to be questing after new sounds and approaches, adding many changes and embellishments on repeats, not afraid to use the pedals copiously, strongly differentiating polyphonic voices, even hammering out some accents for percussive effect. At his latest recital here, at the Phillips Collection on Sunday afternoon, it was not surprising to hear him play jewel-like Couperin (his opening set) or a delightful Scarlatti sonata as an encore (the guitar-like K. Tharaud (3-CD re-release, Harmonia Mundi)Īlexandre Tharaud continues to surprise me. So sorry for the delay and thank you for your patience Komorebi.Bach / Rameau / Couperin, A. *kiseki has finished the coverage of season one of Yowamushi Pedal and the writing baton is now being passed to Komorebi, who will be covering season two. The aces and their assistants (more specifically, Souhoku’s ace & assistant and Hakone Academy’s ace) are pulling ahead in the final battle of the day. Yes, it looks to be an exciting season two indeed.

Season two also brings with it a promise of new characters and in turn more seiyuus, so that’s yet another thing to look forward to.

#FINALE 2014.5 PIANO PEDAL SERIES#

They made this series all the more enjoyable and I am very much looking forward to hearing them in season two. Then there’s the Kyoto Fushimi team, with Yusa Kouji (Midousuji), Nojima Hirofumi (Ishigaki) and Suzuki Chihiro (Mizuta). In the Souhoku team, we have Toriumi Kousuke (Imaizumi), Fukushima Jun (Naruko), Yamashita Daiki (Onoda), Itou Kentarou (Tadokoro), Yasumoto Hiroki (Kinjou) and Morikubo Showtarou (Makishima). They work as a team so that all six of them going to the third day together, so that all six of them cross that final finish line.īefore finishing this review, I just have to mention the seiyuus, since they are the very reason I decided to pick up this show in the first place. If Onoda can’t ride anymore, Imaizumi would pull him along to the finish line. Souhoku rides as a team, with no member being left behind. And again when Onoda was exhausted to the point of dropping out, Imaizumi supported him. When Onoda almost collapsed from sheer exhaustion, Naruko held him up. The team spirit was strong not only in Hakone Academy, but in Souhoku as well. And what trustworthy team mates you have. Oh captain, what trust you have in your team mates. He merely pulled ahead to keep Kyoto Fushimi in check and was fully confident that the rest of his teammates would catch up eventually. Fukutomi had not abandoned his teammates. At the beginning of the episode, it was revealed that Arakita was pulling an exhausted Shinkai along. The concept of a ‘team’ really is one of the major focuses of Yowapeda, and this episode served to remind us just how important a team is. The race aside, this episode really brings us back to the topic of teamwork and team spirit. In the last 6 kilometers, Souhoku finally caught up with the two leading teams, and the three teams now face off against one another in their battle for the finish line.
